Westfjords of Iceland
Westfjords are and forever be my favourite part of Iceland. I don’t really know why exactly I’m so drawn to this part of the country, maybe because on my first ever visit to Iceland I have spend 2 weeks being a volunteer in Hólmavík.
Westfjords are a very remote and lesser visited part of Iceland. Roads here are not the best and are often running up the steep slopes of the mountains, definitely not for the faint-hearted. But once you reach this region you are rewarded with views that don’t disappoint.
There are some places that, in my opinion, you shouldn’t miss while traveling to the Westfjords.
Dynjandi - beautiful cascade waterfall between the south and northern parts of the Westfjords.
Látrabjarg cliffs - birdwatching paradise. Thousands of cute puffins nesting there from May until the middle of August.
Pollurinn - hot pot in Tálknafjörður, perfect spot to relax after a long day of driving.
Selárdalur (this one is certainly optional, but I love it!) - Samuel Jónson’s art museum.
These are my favourite images from my trips to the Westfjords in the winter 2016 and in summer 2017.
